Burlap Pillows Galore!!

Hello all!   It is Thanksgiving Eve!!  I have about 16 or so days left until the craft fair - I have finally finished all the burlap pillows I will be making and here they are

Above are the finished products -- I give thanks to the fairy's at graphicsfairy.com (http://thegraphicsfairy.com) , for without their beautiful graphics and easy instructions to print, iron on, transfer, etc., these would be quite boring.  I do admit that I don't understand what they all mean (the French quotes) but I do like them and like the way they have all turned out.  I am showing them on the bench I had painted with Miss Mustard Seeds tricycle red - I love it, it is such a happy color when applied over a white base -

This rooster one is my favorite!  If it sells, I will probably make one for myself -- after all these pillows, the burlap has grown on me!! HA!  Can you believe it?????
This one had beautiful edges so I though it might look cool just tying jute around it like a sack - I like it.

This looks very lumpy!! But out of them all is the softest.  I used scraps of drop cloth and a trial print out of the graphic -- I think I actually put this right thru the printer -just as is, no freezer paper - Amazed the machine did not jam!!

I still have a few more burlap items to show but will do that on another post.

Best Wishes to all for a wonderful thanksgiving and as I have on my frig:  God's word for today is:
Think of 3 (or more) things you are thankful for - and if they involve people, tell them!!

We are going to my neices' and are so looking forward to it!   I am bringing the Yam and Apple Casserole that I made in that recipe swap (I don't know how to cyberlink yet so I cannot say, press here, sorry!! you'll just have to look for the recipe in my side bar.)  And a greenbean casserole!  EASY!  especially because I will be walking in with 8 others in toe.....   Yikes!

Until next time.............Trisha

Burlap pillows

Hello to you, you kind soul, for clicking on my post!!  God Bless You!!!!   I have not been posting lately and feel very much out of the "loop"!  I have committed myself to be in a craft fair on December 14th -- without anything to put in it!!!!  I have been busier than a one armed paper hanger trying to come up with ideas that will be appealing and up to date in the craft world.  One of these ideas has been BURLAP!    If I am to be real honest with you, I have to admit I just do not get the whole burlap craze.  It is itchy, scratchy, smelly, sheddy/dusty,  etc., etc., etc.,   People are making all kinds of things out of it from slipcovers, curtains, table runners, placemats, GOD forbid if someone makes napkins!  So I have temporarily jumped on this wagon and made burlap pillows - I especially do not get it there!!  Obviously it is strictly for decoration!!  Anyway - that is one of the things I will be selling at the craft fair and here is a peek at them.
For this one I just sewed a strip and added fringed tassels to the four corners
My daughter said,  Mom, it looks like you just sewed a piece of fabric to it, are you just going to leave it  that way?  I said yes, rustic and burlap are all the rage - I know, I don't get it either!!

For these two pictures you can see I decided to fringe the edges.

And here they are again - I made more - added burlap flowers to some but don't like the way they turned out so I'm not showing you!!

Well, I hope all the people at the show don't have the same feelings I do toward burlap, cause in up coming posts I will be showing some other things I have made using it!!!  Things you won't need to rest your pretty little head on and come up with a rash!!!!!! hahahaha!

Best wishes for a wonderful weekend - the last one before the Christmas madness begins -  It is a shame really, I remember decorating the tree on Christmas Eve - and the house a week before Christmas - not a week after Halloween!!!!!  What have we done to ourselves as a nation?  I don't like the fast lane and as a matter of fact I would like to turn in my gerbil wheel ASAP -- Anyone want it?  That is my give away!!!!!  hahahahahahaha

                                  Until next time.....Trisha

Recipe Swap!!!!!!!!

Hello, Hello!!!!  Long time, no write!!  I feel like a girble on a running wheel -- does anyone else ever feel that way?

Well, November is here and almost gone....I accepted an invitation to be in a recipe swap and my swap partner was Julie from Confessions of a cooking diva --
http://www.confessionsofacookingdiva.com.  We had about 15-20 days from the time we each received our recipes to make, photograph, and blog - our due date is Nov. 15.....I got it in just under the wire and as I find out so did Julie!!

We had the teacher who arranges the German exchange students over for dinner last night for our monthly evaluation of both Lukas and us.  I know he loves chicken so I thought this would be the perfect recipe (atleast I hoped!!) to serve along with the chicken and stuffing.  Ready............

Yams and Apple Casserole
1 large can of cut up yams, 3 apples (I used 4 cause they were small) cut and peeled .. golden delicious or Rome.    Then mix 1 stick of butter, 1 cup brown sugar, 1 tsp salt, 1 cup orange juice and 1 cup of hot water.   Melt all the last 5 ingredients in a sauce pan until butter is melted - then add 3 Tbls of cornstarch to a small amount of water - mix well - pour into sauce and cook til bubbly

meanwhile, cut up yams and core, peel and cut apples - layer in greased 13 x 9 casserole dish (oops! I put it in a Pyrex casserole round dish)    Alternate yams and apples

after sauce is thickened and bubbly pour over  yams and apples

bake in a prepared 350 oven for 1 hour - I started off covering this then half way through I took it off.  My sauce never got really thick -I don't know if it is supposed to or not - maybe cause I used the wrong dish?????    Anyway - this is what it looks like cooked.......

btw:  Julie never said whether to cover or not........

Our guest  L O V E D  this and I told him about the swap.  He asked if she was from the south cause "white people don't eat yams!"  I said, "yes they do!! but I don't know if she is from the south, I'll ask her."   hahahahahahahahah we all laughed!

Well, I asked Julie today and she is from the west!!  That answers that!!    This casserole was delicious!  Everyone loved it - even Lukas, our resident German, who has never seen nor eaten a yam/sweet potato in his life!  He was a bit nervous of the unknown but really enjoyed it.   Mr. Williams went home with the leftovers!!

It was very easy to prepare, the hardest part being peeling, coring, slicing the apples.  I was going to use my Pampered Chef apple peeler, corer, slicer, but didn't feel like setting it up and cleaning it up - by that time the apples would have been done anyway.

I will be joining some sort of party with this recipe, courtesy of Julie!!   I hope you guys try this and like me, will bring it to your Thanksgiving feast!!

Until next time...................Trisha

All Things Christmas Link Party

Haaaaaaayyyyyy!

I have overextended myself once again and said yes to a local craft fair.  The last craft fair I did was in 2006 when I was painting glass and galvanized metal.  I am in a panic!  It isn't until Dec. 14, but, I don't have a single thing to sell!   I have a few ideas and picked up some burlap (I am not a fan) to sew/create some quick sale stuff.  I have learned during the c.f. process, if you want to make any money you need to have most things priced under $20 - Everyone wants to buy something when they attend these things but they don't want to break the bank.  It seems $20 and under is the golden price - then I'll have other things like chairs and furniture priced higher - we'll see if the 7 years away  from the scene has changed things.    I have asked a few others to contribute to the table to ease my stress!  However, the coldsore on my nose says that  that hasn't worked!!

On to other commitments........I was shocked beyond all get out to have been invited to be a co-hostess in the "All things Christmas Link Party" beginning November 18!!!!!!!!  YAY!  I am really excited to be joining these other girls in the new venture!!  This is my very first hosting of a link party so Cara from Craftdictator has promised to walk me through it!!   So I would like to invite all of you out there in TV Land to join in this wonderful adventure!  Please feel free to spread the word to all your blogging friends!
